Top 10 Lippies of 2013

Top 10 Lippies of 2013 Beauty Swatch
After tuning into a whole year of lip swatches, I bet you’re wondering which ones are my favourites beneath the objective reviews.  Whilst I do love finding gems in budget brands, there’s nothing like a sophisticated formulas to make me go weak at the knees.  Here are my top favourite lip products that were featured on Beauty Swatch in 2013 in no particular order.  To view last year’s picks, visit my Top 10 Lippies of 2012 post.

1. Burberry Lip Velvet – A soft wearable matte that gives lips a soft focus demure finish.  Great for those that want an everyday matte finish without looking over dressed.

2. Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color – Bobbi Brown’s take on the sheer lipstick trend doesn’t compromise on pigment nor longevity.  Blends seamlessly into every crevice of your lips making it almost believable that your lips are naturally in that colour.

3. Chanel Rouge Allure Moire – My favourite shade “Indecisé” is the ultimate sophisticated pearl nude that looks stunning in all angles of lighting.

4. Chantecaille Lip Chic – Hands down the most moisturising lipstick I’ve ever tried that keeps my lips soft all day.  Also the only lipstick I’ve come closest to hitting pan since my blogging.

5. ck one shine lipstick – The translucent yet lip hugging sheer formula makes even the trickiest of colours look flawless with no slippage or settling into lines.

6. Clinique Chubby Stick Intense – The ultimate low maintenance lippie in a range of punchy colours that doesn’t require lip balm, lip brush or lip liner whatsoever.

7. Sisley Hydrating Long Lasting Lipstick – The most comfortable long wearing moisturising lipstick that makes your lips feel like soft fabric.  Shade “Geisha” is my favourite glamour red.

8.  Shiseido Lacquer Rouge – my favourite liquid lipstick that provides creamy moist coverage.  Comes in a range of “my lips but better” and work appropriate shades for a understated polished look.

9. YSL Rouge Volupte Shine – The punchiest sheer lipstick you’ll come across that’s also moisturising.  Runner up in the 2013 Australian Beauty Awards lipstick category.

10. YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats Lipstick –  The most luxurious matte finish I’ve tried that gives high definition pillowy lips that you typically see in editorials or runways.

BURBERRY Lip Mist – Copper #202 – Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Brand: Burberry
Range: Lip Mist
Shade: Copper #202
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Burberry Lip Mists gives lip a luminous moist dewy finish with a subtle hint of polished colour.
  • Glides effortlessly and smoothly & contains moisturising emollients and wild rose extract for long lasting hydration and protection.
  • Incredibly lightweight with a “barely there” feel, the sheerness of the formula blends seamlessly with your natural lip tone for a natural yet polished finish.
  • Unlike many sheer formulas out there, this doesn’t streak or slip around, providing even coverage.
  • Copper #202  is a gorgeous nude that blends with your lip tone to create a sophisticated nude/MLBB shade.
  • Verdict: If this shade looks familiar, it’s because I purchased a full size after swatching the tester palette hereCopper is my favourite warm nude lip to pair with tonal makeup (ie. chocolate smokey eyes & contoured cheeks) as it gives my lips a wash of the signature Burberry beige colour without streaking on my pigmented lips.   Highly recommend it for those that like the idea of lipstick that’s as comfortable as wearing lip balm & lovers of subtle / minimalist makeup.  Copper is the shade worn on the Burberry models advertising this lipstick.

Brand: Burberry
Range: Lip Velvet
Shade: Fuchsia Pink #309
Swatched by yours truly:

  • Burberry Lip Velvet has a fabric-like semi-matte finish with a comfortable moisturising formula that’s lightweight.
  • Whilst it’s densely pigmented, the overall finish comes across as demure due to the diffused effect, making lips look “lived in”.  It affects not only the main lip surface but also the lip lines so if you prefer a more polished edge, I recommend using a lip line to create crisper lines.
  • The packaging also comes in a matte finish compared to the glossy packaging of Lip Mists & Lip Covers.
  • Fuchsia Pink is not at all what I expected a shade of such a name to be – it turned out to be a rich cool toned red against my fair neutral skin tone.  The cool tones are not overbearing, making this shade versatile for all skin tones, as long as it’s a red you’re looking for.
  • Doesn’t accentuate lip lines & has no discernible taste.
  • It’s not overly matte or drying, but not moisturising enough to wear without hydrated lips so I recommend prepping lips with lip balm & removing excess once absorbed before applying Lip Velvet.
  • Verdict: The diffused effect of Lip Velvet makes this formula perfect for everyday or casual outings.   Recommended for those that want a softer wearable matte lip with a demure yet sophisticated finish.

Swatched over a layer of lip balm.

  • Burberry Lip Mists give a sheer illuminating finish with a natural subtle hint of colour
  • Delicately scented with wild rose extract & contains moisturising emollients for long-lasting hydration and protection
  • Texture glides so smoothly and effortlessly with a lightweight “barely there” feel.
  • Tip from Burberry: Apply with fingers for a natural tint, or apply 2 layers for a bolder finish
  • Link Love: Bluebell who is NC5-10 also swatched the same lipstick sample palette – check it out here!
  • Verdict: Incredibly moisturising, lightweight as a veil & gives lips a sophisticated wash of subtle colour.  Highly recommend it for those that like the idea of lipstick that’s as comfortable as wearing lip balm & lovers of subtle / minimalist makeup.  Copper is the shade worn on the Burberry models advertising this lipstick.
These swatches were applied with a generous layer of lipstick applied with a brush.
Look how glossy and moisturising they are on their own!

I got this lipstick sample at the Burberry counter.
