Brand: Chanel
Range: Rouge Coco Shine
Shades: Fiction & Dialogue (Avant Première de Chanel Collection for Spring 2013)
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

From the 1930s and throughout her life, Mademoiselle Chanel was courted by film directors in both France and Hollywood to create costumes for some of the most beautiful stars of the time.  Collection Avant-Première is Peter Philips’ homage to the classic movies which showcased her creations. Rouge Coco’s are a collection of contemporary, feminine lip colours styled on the philosophy of Mademoiselle Chanel: easy to wear and free of constraint.

  • This year, Rouge Coco Shines have reached a new level of vibrancy with 30% more pigment in a melt-away texture, with new shades in deeper colours in the signature semi-transparent moist shine finish.
  • The secret to the gentle moisturising formula is Chanel’s Hydratendre complex that softens and plumps lips for a healthier fuller apperanace.
  • More sophisticated than a lip tint or sheer lipstick, Rouge Coco Shines stay put really well, gently dressing the lips with a veil of colour that has minimal slip or transfer.
  • The Spring 2013 collections has added 8 new shades to the range that offer surprising coverage for a lip shine – Ingenue (golden beige), Interlude (intense coral peach), Saga (limited edition, tender pure pink), Suspense (fuchsia with pearl finish), Fiction (garnet plum with golden pearl), Synopsis (icy brown), Scénario (pure red brown), Dialogue (intense red)
  • Verdict: I must admit I was slow to catch on the Rouge Coco Shine bandwagon when it first launched, as I found the previous colour range very subtle for my skin tone and taste.  Now that the range has new pigmented shades, I am totally hooked on how easy it is to wear for both work and weekends, making my lips looked polished without looking over done up or dressed down.  Best of all, it disguises lip flaws effortlessly leaving no sign of any dryness or stubborn flakes.  Fiction is the perfect trans-seasonal plum shade for easing your way into a deep wine lip this winter.

Dialogue 84 – classic red

Fiction 81 -  berry red

Shades: Liaison 49, Sentiment 48 (Avant Première de Chanel Collection for Spring 2013)

  • Rouge Coco lipsticks glides smoothly with a creamy finish, and are surprisingly lightweight despite its vibrant pigment.
  • Incredibly comfortable to wear thanks to Hydratendre complex that softens, soothes and conditions lips, making them look plump and smooth.
  • Although it’s moisturising enough that you don’t actually need any lip balm underneath this lipstick, I found that since the shades are so nude I need a slick of lip balm to soften any signs of dryness as pale shades tend to accentuate lip flaws.
  • Finishes range from matte to pearl to soft shimmer
  • Compared to Rouge Allure, Rouge Coco is more moisturising and slightly less opaque, however Rouge Allure gives lips a bolder & plush appearance.
  • The Spring 2013 collections has added 6 new shades to the range – Sentiment (natural beige with peach tones), Liaison (soft satiny pink), Ce Soir (plum brown), Grace (Rosewood with copper accents), Amant (half tone orange red), Le Baiser (deep pink with golden shimmer).
  • Verdict:  Even on my flushed lip tone, both Liaison and Sentiment dress my lips in sophisticated nudes that catches just enough light to make it look lively without looking washed out due to the demi-matte finish.   On a fair lip tone, coverage won’t be as much of an issue, however I find that a slick of liquid lipstick or gloss does the trick in smoothing out any unevenness against my flushed lip tone & keep it moisturised for longer.

Liaison #49 – soft satiny pink

Sentiment #48 – natural beige with peach tones

Swatched over a layer of Nivea Lip Butter.  The coverage is heavier if you apply directly onto lips without lip balm.

I’m wearing Liaison topped with Coffret D’or BU Rouge PK-262

RRP: $50 AUD

Shade: Rivoli #21

A modern interpretation of classic creme lip colour as an homage to the rich life and legacy of ‘Coco’ Chanel

  • You don’t actually need any lip balm underneath this lipstick, unless you want to sheer it out or give lips an extra moisture boost.
  • Finishes range from matte to pearl to soft shimmer
  • Compared to Rouge Allure, Rouge Coco is more moisturising and slightly less opaque, however Rouge Allure gives lips a bolder & plush appearance – perfect for a statement bold lip.
  • Rivoli is a burgundy that appears matte (without lip balm) but actually has a soft creamy slip when you put your lips together.
  •  Verdict: Wine lip shades can often look harsh if you don’t get it right, but what I love about Rivoli is its versatility when worn both sheer and full coverage. The cool tones in this burgundy shade not only brightens teeth but your complexion as well, making it an excellent choice for getting onboard the oxblood lip trend.  The polished yet comfortable formula makes Rouge Coco a great choice for everyday sophistication.

Swatched over lip balm.  Without any lip balm it’s creamier, more pigmented & opaque with a semi-matte finish.

  • Gabrielle was an interesting red that caught my surprise,  because it swatched neutral-toned on the back of my hand, but it wasn’t until I swatched it on my arm & lips that it became clear that it was a very warm red (I have a neutral skin tone).
  •  Verdict: The warmth in Gabrielle is subtle based on appearance alone, but it really stands out when it’s on my lips.  For this reason I recommend trying this on counter & would pick this for warm or olive skin tones rather than neutral or cool skin tones. Other than that, the polished yet comfortable formula makes Rouge Coco a great choice for everyday sophistication.
