MAC Cremesheen Glass – Narcissus

Brand: MAC
Range: Cremesheen Glass
Shade: Narcissus (Daphne Guiness Collection)
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Launched as part of the Daphne Guiness Collection, Narcissus is described as a “dirty eggplant’ shade.
  • The shade is a glossy dupe of MAC Lipstick in “Bust Out!” from the Surf Baby Collection.
  • Non-sticky with MAC’s signature vanilla scent.
  • Texture is smooth, creamy and quite opaque compared to other Cremesheen Glass shades.
  • Verdict: This violet shade is more like it!  Especially compared to yesterday’s anti-climax with Bobbi Brown’s “Ultra Violet”.  I love the opaque finish so I can wear it alone without looking OTT.  For those that rarely (or never) wear violet, make an exception and try this out.  You might just surprise yourself on how wearable it is.

BOBBI BROWN Sheer Color Lip Gloss – Ultra Violet

  • The Neon & Nudes Collection features 3 new shades in the lipgloss range – Ultra Violet, Cosmic Pink & Citrus.
  • Seeing as Bobbi Brown lipglosses are the only ones I’ve ever reached the bottom of, I’m very pleased that she has increased the size of all her lipglosses.  AND FINALLY they now come in a doe wand!!
  • With soothing botanical extracts, these lipglosses are smoothing with a minty scent, and are really sheer despite the neon appearance in the tube.
  • Verdict: The sheerness felt like an anti-climax when applied directly on lips. This type of gloss is best for layering over lipsticks to add a twist to fuschias or bring out the purple hues in violets.
I like how it gives a flush of colour on my lips, just don’t expect a bright violet shade if worn alone.

TOM FORD Ultra Shine Lip Gloss – Rose Crush

Brand: Tom Ford
Range: Ultra Shine Lip Gloss
Shade: Rose Crush
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Tom Ford Ultra Shine Lip Glosses are intensely creamy, pigmented (or colour saturated as they call it!) with a high shine lacquer finish.
  • The thick creamy texture has high grip – so much that it doesn’t smudge on teeth – and sculpts lips into a smooth finish.
  • It is the stickiest formula I’ve tested to date, a trade off for long lasting pigmented shine.
  • Rose Crush is a gorgeous warm beige on my skintone, perfect for those that love their neutrals.
  • Available in 10 shades from neutrals to luscious reds, violets, pinks and corals.
  • For those that love a good dupe, one that comes to mind is Bobbi Brown Rich Colour Gloss in Pink Buff which is slightly rosier.
  • Verdict: It’s luxury in a gloss, exceptionally high in quality and definitely a collector’s item.  The stickiness is not for everyone, but I love the fact that you get a sophisticated finish that lasts all day with minimal touch ups required.  Just remember to have your hair up to avoid it being cemented into this highly sticky gloss!

Woops! Thank goodness I lined my light tent with paper!

A little gloss goes a LONG way! You only need half the usual amount of gloss to achieve the finish on the right pic.

Brand: MAC
Range: Lipglass
Shade: Fresh Air

  • Fresh Air is one of four limited edition shades launched as part of the Naturally collection.
  • Fresh Air is a sheer light beige pink with very fine shimmers.
  • Unlike other milky shades, this is not milky enough to noticeably sink into lip lines, making it a really wearable milky gloss.
  • As with MAC lipglasses, the texture is long lasting thanks to the thick and sticky formula.
  • Verdict: This gloss is so subtle it will appeal to those who appreciate a natural, subtletake on sheer nudes that have a translucent, luminous and a veil-like finish.

Do you like translucence when it comes to lip glosses?
Or do you like your glosses to be punchy and creamy?

Apologies (again) for the pale BB cream that caused my auto-white balance to give me pink tones!

Brand: Jane Iredale

: Lip Fixation
Shade
: Fascination
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Jane Iredale Lip Fixation is a double ended lipgloss, combining a lip stain with a shimmery high shine gloss.
  • The lip stain is long lasting enough to last through meals (and stain my arm after swatching). The gloss is lightweight and non-sticky.
  • Contains lip soothing & plumping botanical ingredients & gives buildable coverage without feathering or drying.
  • Available in 9 shades – Craving, Desire, Fascination, Fetish, Devotion, Rapture, Mania, Passion, Relish
  • Fascination is a berry stain that really pops once you apply a top coat of shimmery gloss
  • Verdict: The finish is elegant, with subtle shimmers and boasts a long lasting stain. Although the price is steep, the sophisticated finish of this gloss makes this one of my top recommended lip products in the mineral makeup category.

The doe wand gives steadier control over the lip stain, whereas the brush wand gives quick application of a slick of layer gloss.

The lip stain on its own looks blah until the shimmer gloss transforms it into a shimmery glossy berry.

Apologies for the pink tones, my pale BB cream caused the auto-white balance to play up!

RRP: $56 AUD / $30 USD

Available at Adore Beauty (Australia) and the Jane Iredale website.
