Brand: Palmer’s
Range: Cocoa Butter Formula
Flavour: Dark Chocolate & Cherry Lip Balm SPF 15

  • A whiff of this lip balm & I’m instantly reminded of Cherry Ripe, Australia’s oldest chocolate bar that has cherries and coconut coated in dark chocolate.
  • It’s not only deliciously scented, but also contains anti-oxidants and SPF 15 for sun protection.
  • The silky texture is thanks to dimethicone (a silicone-based polymer) which leaves lips with a diffused finish, but it doesn’t smooth lip lines.
  • I did try to swatch this on my arm, but it only left a subtle dark cherry stain so I skipped photographing it.
  • Verdict:  The subtle “dark chocolate cherry” tint on the lips will appeal to those with darker lips, as there are not that many lip tints out there with such a shade. Despite the “ultra moisturising claims” it’s lightweight in moisture for my lip condition, making this product better suited to younger lips or those who live in more humid climates.

BILLIE GOAT SOAP Lip Balm – Review, Photos, Swatches

Brand: Billie Goat Soap
Range: Lip Balm
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Billie Goat Soap is famous for their goat milk products (soaps, body wash, moisturisers) formulated for sensitive skin especially for babies.
  • Having tried their soaps and moisturisers previously, I was intrigued to try their lip balm range when I saw it at the pharmacy as it’s made from Australian goats milk and skin loving oils.
  • To my surprise, it wasn’t milky in appearance, rather it was a clear balm that includes ingredients like natural emollients, triglycerides, coconut oil, jojoba oil, cocoa seed buter, beeswax and Vitamins C, B1, B6, B12 and E.
  • It melts really quickly and the oils leaves lips with a high gloss clear shine.
  • Available in 3 flavours – Natural, Peach and Pear & Mango.  No parabens, SLS, fragrance, colour and not tested on animals.
  • Verdict: It’s with mixed emotions that I give this a thumbs down. Whilst it does mositurise lips, I felt the formula is too oily / emollient and not well balanced making it absorb so quickly that my lips are left bare once absorbed.  If you’re in the market for a completely natural lip balm, I’d recommend Lanolips 101 Ointment over this one.

  • Clarins Hydra Quench Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm is a rich, protective treatment balm that contains shea butter, wild mango and Vitamin E, olive extract, and rice oil plus a lip plumping complex.
  • My dehydrated lips immediately feel softened, plumped with moisture and protected by a rich salve barrier.
  • Leaves lips with a glossy finish. It supposedly leaves a healthy flush but since my lips are naturally flushed I didn’t notice any difference.
  • The slanted tip makes it easy to apply hygienically on the go.
  • Verdict: There are only a few lip balms that do such a fabulous job of moisturising to the extent that they melt my lip flakes, and this is one of them.  Any lip sins I’ve committed during the week are all forgiven with a full day’s application of this lip balm. I have it permanently in my weekend bag and have gotten so hooked on this lip balm that I have stopped applying lip colour!!

Brand: ASAP
Range: hydrating lip balm + SPF15

  • ASAP hydrating lip balm+ is a cosmeceutical lip treatment to treat cold sores, sun damage, cracked and chapped lips, thanks to ingredients like Vitamin B3, anti-viral Alpine Rose and Bisabolo (an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredient found in chamomile).
  • Instantly soothes and comforts dry chapped lips, coating it with a non-sticky gloss-like barrier that leaves lips with a healthy glossy sheen and the added benefit of SPF 15 for sun protection.
  • Absorbs fully within a few minutes, and gives a slightly cooling sensation.
  • Verdict: I like this more as a daily lip barrier to protect lips from the elements, but when it comes to healing severely chapped lips, it didn’t really heal mine with the same efficacy I get with brands like Uriage, Carmex or Lanolips. As I don’t suffer from cold sores, I can’t comment on its anti-inflammatory properties, but seeing as it’s one of the fastest selling product from the ASAP range this lip balm seems to strike a chord for other people. If you’ve tried it on cold sores, I’d love to hear your feedback on how it worked for you!

PANIER DES SENS Honey Lip Balm – Review, Photos, Swatches

LIP TREATMENTS, Lips, Yishan | by — December 2, 2013

Brand: Panier des Sens
Range: Honey Lip Balm
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Panier des Sens Honey Lip Balm (made in France) is formulated with organic honey extracts, apricot oil and shea butter.
  • The brand ethos is focused on keeping a low carbon footprint, and the packaging is designed to be light and recyclable.
  • Texture is very emollient and melts very quickly upon contact with the skin.  The scent is more buttery than of honey.
  • Provides very light moisture only and absorbs quickly.
  • Verdict: This lip balm was too light for me, and didn’t provide my lips with enough moisture even with repeat application as my lips are very dry.  It’s also not really a healing lip balm, so I’d only suggest this to those who don’t suffer from dry lips and like the idea of a lightweight balm that absorbs easily.  On a positive note, I really like the packaging, typography and all.
