BLISTEX Five Way Lip Protection SPF 30+ Review Photos Swatches

BLISTEX, LIP TREATMENTS, Lips, Yishan | by — November 14, 2013

Brand: Blistex
Range: Five Way Lip Protection SPF 30+
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Blistex Five-Way Lip Protection is designed to protect lips in all weather conditions, with five specialised ingredients that protect against nature’s five harshest conditions: dryness, sun, heat, cold and wind.
  • Formulated with calendula oil to comfort cold-chapped lips, glycerin to rehydrate heat-stressed lips, candellilla to provide wind resistance, wheat germ oil to lock in moisture and SPF 30 to protect the lips from sun rays.
  • Feels instantly moisturising upon application & leaves a protective moisture barrier and a healthy sheen.
  • Despite the high SPF, it doesn’t leave a white cast on lips. Also doesn’t leave any waxy residue once the moisturising ingredients are absorbed.
  • Works great as a moisturising SPF base under lipstick, however it’s so emollient that the lipstick may sheer out depending on how much lip balm is applied.
  • Verdict: Since discovering the awesome Blistex Complete Moisture , the Five Way Lip Protection is another gem from Blistex that’s an all rounder lip balm & protectant to suit all weather conditions.  With summer approaching soon in Australia , I highly recommend carrying a lip balm with you that has at least SPF 25 to prevent lips from aging prematurely from sun damage.

NUXE Rêve De Miel Lip Balm – Review, Photos, Swatches

LIP TREATMENTS, Lips, NUXE, Yishan | by — October 30, 2013

Brand: Nuxe
Range: Rêve De Miel Lip Balm
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Nuxe, a French luxe pharmacy brand, is renowned for their luxurious skincare products that treat even the most sensitive skin.
  • The Rêve De Miel Lip Balm is formulated with a delicious plant cocktail of acacia honey, shea butter, grapefruit essence, sweet almond oil and Vitamin e to nourish chapped lips.
  • The texture is unique in that it feels like hardened honey (almost grainy), but melts into a rich salve once massaged into skin.
  • I have tried using this in 3 different ways – as a lip scrub, as a rich treatment for chapped lips and as an overnight treatment.
  • As an rich lip treatment – it not only penetrates through the dry layers, but also keeps the outer surface softened which will appeal to those that like their lip balms to feel like a long lasting “salve” on the skin.  If you are treating severely chapped lips, I recommend using this at home as it will leave a milky finish on lips. On chap-free lips it doesn’t leave any residue.
  • As an overnight treatment – it’s moderate in moisture for my very dry lip condition.
  • As a lip scrub – it helps to soften the outer lip surface, once absorbed I remove excess with a cotton bud to lift off loose lip debris.  It won’t remove all the flakes necessarily, but it does remove what’s ready to come off.  This is my favourite way to use it & I apply it in the morning when I am applying makeup & remove the excess when I’m ready for lippie.
  • Verdict: This is closest thing to a lip scrub that I will ever use to remove lip flakes, and I love that it’s multi-purpose for both nourishing dry lips and removing lip debris.  Try it if you need a rich healing treatment for chapped lips or like the idea of a pseudo lip scrub that’s gentle on lips.

SISLEY Nutritive Lip Balm Reviews, Photos, Swatches

LIP TREATMENTS, Lips, NC20, SISLEY, Yishan | by — September 3, 2013

Brand: Sisley
Range: Nutritive Lip Balm
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm is an exceptionally rich and repairing lip balm for cracked, dry and chapped lips.
  • It’s rich in soothing, emollient and protective lipid, and features a combination of oils (hazelnut, plum kernel, sunflower), shea butter and kokum butter to re-hydrate and plump the lips.
  • What’s unique about this lip balm over other rich lip balms is that it forms a protective film against the environment, so that the ingredients can work their magic on your lips beneath.
  • Free of artificial colouring and fragrance.
  • Verdict: To put this balm to the ultimate test, I stopped using my holy grail night time lip balm and used Sisley morning and night continuously for several days.  The protective barrier was impressive as it kept my lips protected all through the night (for me, 99% other lip balms never last the night) on most days, the exception  being when my lips were exceptionally dry or I was dehydrated. As a lip base, it provides long lasting hydration underneath lipstick & adds a little shine too.   But the most impressive results were on chapped lips.  I suffer from them just like anyone else especially during winter, and this lip balm very quickly nursed them back to to health.  The only drawback is that it’s incredibly expensive, especially when I can think of a day and night lip balm that costs a fraction but achieves equally impressive results.  This is definitely one for the lippie connoisseur.

CARMEX Moisturising Lip Balm Reviews, Photos, Swatches

CARMEX, LIP TREATMENTS, Lips, NC20, Yishan | by — August 28, 2013

Brand: Carmex
Range: Moisturising Lip Balm
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Carmex is well known and loved by many for it’s cooling sensation (from camphor & menthol) whilst the cocoa butter formula that features salicylic acid helps to moisturise and gently exfoliate lip flakes.
  • Available in a jar or squeeze tube packaging, Carmex is great for everyday use and leaves a comfortable smooth silky and glossy finish.
  • The squeeze tub wins in terms of packaging for me, as it gives me better control on how much product I’m using (and I usually like to apply lip balm generously) and is more hygienic as well.
  • Verdict: Whilst menthol might not be suitable for sensitive lips, I find Carmex to be great as an everyday lip balm that does exactly as it promises.  It’s certainly not the richest or most repairing lip balm out there, but the advantage Carmex has over most everyday lip balms is the salicylic acid that does its work during the day to gently exfoliate lip flakes so that they’re ready to “lift off” by the time you jump in the shower or wash your face at the end of the day.  If you’ve read my previous post on lip exfoliation, you’ll know that I am a huge fan of salicylic acid in lip balm as it’s more gentle on lips than a lip scrub.

As you can see it’s a simple formula that doesn’t smooth the lip surface, but it does leave a glossy finish.
The squeeze tube lets me control how much I like to apply (and I like to slather it on) so I managed to get a glossier finish than I did from the jar.

MOLTON BROWN Pep-Rich Lip Booster – Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Brand: Molton Brown
Range: Pep-Rich Lip Booster
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Molton Brown Pep-Rich Lip Booster features a collagen-boosting peptide that gives the appearance of fuller lips, papaya extract (exfoliates & smoothes) and african mango (softens and protects).
  • Texture is balmy with a clear shimmery appearance.
  • To use, wind up the applicator to extract a small amount on the lip brush & smooth onto lips.
  • On immediate application, my lips appeared fuller, lines softened and moisturised.  I repeat – results are IMMEDIATE.
  • Verdict: The pictures speak for themselves – I am AMAZED at the results & am hooked on this like crack.  The sad part is that for $59 AUD it only contains 3.5ml of product and has an expiry of 6 months!! That makes this lip balm more expensive than high end eye creams.  I’m pacing myself for the remaining 6 months of use, reserving it only for special occasions and lip tutorials.

RRP: $59 AUD (3.5ml) available at Molton Brown at & David Jones (Australia)
