1. Don’t leave home without SPF on the back of your hands
With my hands starting to get a freckle or two, having Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Correcting Hand Cream ($45 AUD) in my hand bag makes it convenient to brighten those age spots and protect my hands from UV rays on the go. It’s lightweight (great for summer), absorbs really quickly (keyboard friendly) and leaves a smooth powder-like finish that’s water resistant for 4 hours.
2. Make sunscreen part of your neck & decolletage skincare
Last summer, my work suits were stained along the collar with white residue from a particular brand of sunscreen. This year I’m being extra careful with selecting my body sunscreen brands to avoid the same mistake again. So far Reef Dry Touch SPF 30+ Sunscreen Lotion ($10.99 AUD) is ticking all boxes – with its dry touch lightweight finish, quick absorption without leaving anything behind except for Reef’s delicious signature coconut scent. I like that it makes skin feels completely clean, not at all what you’d expect a sunscreen to feel.
3. Make peace with bronzer
Once upon a time, the most neglected item in my makeup drawer was bronzer. All 4 of them. Even though I found a few different shades that suit my pale neutral complexion, adding bronzer as the finishing touch didn’t seem to have same WOWZA effect as it does to other people. In preparation for my trip to Broome earlier this week, I was determined to practice “getting my glow on”. I picked Clinique Super Balanced Powder Bronzer ($65 AUD) as it has a natural golden warmth without looking muddy or cinammony and hydrates dry areas whilst controlling oil production where you need it. Perfect for weather that averages 33 degrees Celcius in November. Since taking the plunge, I have been using this bronzer faithfully everyday I wear makeup & now I never leave the house without it.
4. Treat your feet with the same love as your hands
I moisturise my hands several times daily without fail, but I’m embarrassed to say that it’s not the same with my feet. To get my feet ready for summer, I’m using Norwegian Formula Foot Cream ($7.99 AUD) as it delivers concentrated moisture and softens the entire day. My feet instantly glows, looks supple, and it stays moisturised for the whole day. However it doesn’t contain any AHA’s so best to pair this foot cream with a weekly foot soak & scrub to get rid of the dead skin cells.
5. De-clutter your makeup & choose palettes that take your signature look from day to night
Ever since the Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Eye Palette ($130 AUD) landed on my desk, I have been using it religiously every single day (that I wear makeup), and haven’t touched another eyeshadow since. I absolutely love it to death as the brow bone shade is a perfect match to my skintone, has 3 different finishes (matte, fine shimmer & medium shimmer), and has a great variety of tonal shades that covers both neutral and cool toned nudey shades. I often get frustrated by the number of neutral palettes out there that are too warm toned for me, so this palette really speaks to my heart. I’ve since re-created my new signature eye look with it to suit my new glasses, and it takes you effortlessly from day to night, summer to fall. It’s expensive, but it’s limited edition. If you don’t have time in the morning to pick an eyeshadow shade let alone your outfit, I highly recommend grabbing one before it runs out.
