Brand: Chanel
Range: Rouge Coco Shine
Shades: Fiction & Dialogue (Avant Première de Chanel Collection for Spring 2013)
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

From the 1930s and throughout her life, Mademoiselle Chanel was courted by film directors in both France and Hollywood to create costumes for some of the most beautiful stars of the time.  Collection Avant-Première is Peter Philips’ homage to the classic movies which showcased her creations. Rouge Coco’s are a collection of contemporary, feminine lip colours styled on the philosophy of Mademoiselle Chanel: easy to wear and free of constraint.

  • This year, Rouge Coco Shines have reached a new level of vibrancy with 30% more pigment in a melt-away texture, with new shades in deeper colours in the signature semi-transparent moist shine finish.
  • The secret to the gentle moisturising formula is Chanel’s Hydratendre complex that softens and plumps lips for a healthier fuller apperanace.
  • More sophisticated than a lip tint or sheer lipstick, Rouge Coco Shines stay put really well, gently dressing the lips with a veil of colour that has minimal slip or transfer.
  • The Spring 2013 collections has added 8 new shades to the range that offer surprising coverage for a lip shine – Ingenue (golden beige), Interlude (intense coral peach), Saga (limited edition, tender pure pink), Suspense (fuchsia with pearl finish), Fiction (garnet plum with golden pearl), Synopsis (icy brown), Scénario (pure red brown), Dialogue (intense red)
  • Verdict: I must admit I was slow to catch on the Rouge Coco Shine bandwagon when it first launched, as I found the previous colour range very subtle for my skin tone and taste.  Now that the range has new pigmented shades, I am totally hooked on how easy it is to wear for both work and weekends, making my lips looked polished without looking over done up or dressed down.  Best of all, it disguises lip flaws effortlessly leaving no sign of any dryness or stubborn flakes.  Fiction is the perfect trans-seasonal plum shade for easing your way into a deep wine lip this winter.

Dialogue 84 – classic red

Fiction 81 -  berry red

MAYBELLINE NY Color Sensational High Shine Gloss

Brand: Maybelline
Range: NY Color Sensational High Shine Gloss
Shades: Almond Crush, Electric Shock, Plum Lustre, Iced Chocolate, Glisten Up Pink, Captivating Coral, Mirrored Mauve, One Shine Day, Gleaming Grenadine, Luminous Latte
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Give your lips a luminous look with finishes that range from molten glazes through to juicy sheens.
  • Wax free formula that glides incredibly smoothly, melting into lips coating them evenly without sinking into lines or sliding.
  • Despite being infused with Maybelline’s signature honey nectar ingredient, I find this collection features a strong scent of fruit chews (like Starbursts).
  • Available in 10 shades from petal pinks to eye popping coral.
  • Verdict: It’s not everyday that I’m impressed by a high street lip gloss range, but the smooth “lip hugging” formula has captivated me.  My favourite shades are Plum Luster (which I’m saving for Autumn), Electric Shock (cool pink that sits amazingly well even on my pigmented lips) and Iced Chocolate (creamy nude).

Brand: Maybelline
Range: Baby Lips Loves Color
Shades: Cherry Kiss, Berry Crush, Rose Addict, Pink Lolita
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • For the longest time, I have been wishing that Maybelline would release tinted versions of their flavoured Baby Lips.   Finally they have released 4  new tinted shades – Cherry Kiss, Berry Crush, Rose Addict and Pink Lolita.
  • They are a sheerer than I hoped for, but is perfect for those who like to keep things subtle.
  • The reason I love Baby Lips so much is because it’s a great daily lip balm that’s light in texture, gives a healthy sheen, contains SPF20 and looks great under most lipsticks – all for only $3.95 AUD.
  • The only setback is that it’s not rich enough for severely dry lips, or as an overnight treatment.
  • Verdict: I keep one in my bag, one on my “swatch station” and my blogging desk, and have a few more in my drawer as backups.  Also perfect for girls that are a few years off from being allowed to wear lippies, and want to enhance their lips without looking too grown up.

BOBBI BROWN Creamy Matte Lip Color – Jenna, Razzberry

Brand: Bobbi Brown
Range: Creamy Matte Lip Color
Shades: Jenna, Razzbery
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

Creamy Matte Lip Color is a revolutionary matte lipstick formula that uniquely combines the look of a classic matte lip with incredible wearability.  Creamy, moisturising and highly pigmented, it glides comfortably onto lips, but feels extremely lightweight.   Not to mention, it’s got great staying power too.

  • Intense coverage in just one sweep, it’s surprisingly soft, comfortable and so moisturising that you don’t even need lip balm underneath  (provided your lips are flake free).
  • The lipstick softens with the warmth of the lips and releases film formers that create a soft & comfortable canvas for the highly concentrated pigments to work their mojo.
  • The moisturising properties are thanks to a blend of special emollients and soft waxes that form a conditioning barrier to lock in moisture.
  • While it promises to be transfer and feather proof for up to 8 hours, I find it’s best to blot and layer for smudge-proof results.
  • Available in 12 shades, Jenna is a vibrant tangerine orange and Razzberry is a gorgeous plummy berry shade.
  • As the lipstick shape has a round top & is so creamy and intense, I recommend applying this with a lip brush for both precision and a longer lasting finish.
  • Verdict: The bar has been raised with Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Matte Lip Colour.  It’s one of the most moisturising and comfortable creamy matte lipsticks that doesn’t crease or slip on lip lines or flakes.  In fact it makes lips look like they’re dressed in soft fabric.  A must-try for pigmented lippy lovers – you won’t be disappointed.

Swatched without lip balm, because this lippy doesn’t need any.
Jenna looks slightly more matte than Razzberry because it was swatched second & my lips lost some moisture when I removed Razzberry from my lips without applying any lip balm in between.  Even so I still think the results are awesome for a creamy matte formula.
