AVON Shine Attract Lipsticks

Brand: AVON
Range: Shine Attract Lipstick
Shades: Natural Glow, Rose Pink, Happy Pink, Mysterious Mauve, Plum Berry, Caressing Coral, Passionate Red, Copper Connection
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Sheer lip colour surrounded by a moisturising clear gel that coats the lips with a subtle silky shine.
  • Buildable coverage, moderate in hydration, and gives lips a natural flush of colour
  • Whilst the moisturising gel creates a shiny finish initially, it also absorbs quickly leaving your lips softened with a stained effect.
  • You can either apply directly from the tube for a stained look, use fingers to soften the tint or use a lip brush for precise application, especially along the lip line.
  • Verdict: My favourite shades are Plum Berry and Passionate Red as the blue tones in these shades brighten my complexion the most, and it’s not easy to find plums and cherry reds in soft hues that are wearable everyday.  Passionate Red is also an extremely low maintenance sheer red that won’t slide or smear on your lips.

Comes in silver packaging with a clear plastic cap (not pictured)

Because of the gel surrounding the colour core, I had to use a lip brush to create a precise lip line.
You can also use your fingers, or if you’re brave – apply placing the colour core along your lip line.

The swatches are slim because the pigment is concentrated in the centre of the tube.

Brand: Revlon
Range: ColorBurst Lip Butter
Shades: Fig Jam, Candy Apple, Cotton Candy, Berry Smoothie, Sugar Plum, Créme Brulee
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Say goodbye to dull, dry lips with Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters, the most highly raved lipstick on the internet, with bloggers & Youtubers in a craze over the buttery smooth, hydrating balmy texture of this sheer lipstick.
  • Available in 20 “mouth watering” shades, these contain a combination of Mango, Shea and Coconut Butters to soothe lips naturally
  • Sheer when applied directly from the tube, but buildable to medium(ish) coverage if applied with a lip brush.  Finish is juicy & high in shine.
  • Naturally scented with vanilla
  • Disguises dry and tired lips, transforming them into a juicy pout.
  • Verdict: A really versatile lipstick that can be worn sheer (by applying directly from the tube) or layered on for extra coverage by applying with a lip brush for a polished look. My lips stay moisturised for several hours & it fades into a natural tint.  I recommend going for the more vibrant shades in the collection seeing as they are so buildable.

I used a lip brush to apply a generous amount for a pigmented swatch.  No lip balm.

When applied directly from the tube, the finish is as per the arm swatch below.

Brand: Burberry
Range: Lip Mists
Shades: Copper, Rosy Red, Feather Pink, Blueberry
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Burberry Lip Mists give a sheer illuminating finish with a natural subtle hint of colour
  • Delicately scented with wild rose extract & contains moisturising emollients for long-lasting hydration and protection
  • Texture glides so smoothly and effortlessly with a lightweight “barely there” feel.
  • Tip from Burberry: Apply with fingers for a natural tint, or apply 2 layers for a bolder finish
  • Link Love: Bluebell who is NC5-10 also swatched the same lipstick sample palette – check it out here!
  • Verdict: Incredibly moisturising, lightweight as a veil & gives lips a sophisticated wash of subtle colour.  Highly recommend it for those that like the idea of lipstick that’s as comfortable as wearing lip balm & lovers of subtle / minimalist makeup.  Copper is the shade worn on the Burberry models advertising this lipstick.
These swatches were applied with a generous layer of lipstick applied with a brush.
Look how glossy and moisturising they are on their own!

I got this lipstick sample at the Burberry counter.

MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme – Red Dwarf

Brand: MAC
Range: Pro Longwear Lipcreme
Shade: Red Dwarf (Daphne Guiness Colleciton)
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Launched as part of the Daphne Guiness Collection, Red Dwarf is described as a “blue pink” but in my books it’s a blue toned berry shade.
  • The opaque long-wearing formula glides easily and grips onto lips without aggravating lip lines.
  • Fades gracefully into a berry stain without being drying.
  • Because of the long wearing formula & round/flat shape, I recommend using a lip brush to get a smooth even finish.
  • Verdict: Unlike Jen (My Funny Valentine) who can pull off ANY berry shade, there are only a few wine/berry shades that look good on me, and this is one of them.  Another reason I highly recommend this is that many berry/wine shades out there tend to have a lot of slip, sinking into lip lines and looks streaky and uneven.  Red Dwarf has none of that.

Applied with a lip brush over a thin layer of Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm.
