Brand: Revlon
Range: Super Lustrous Shine Lipsticks
Shades: 801 Pink Cloud, 805 Kissable, 810 Pink Sizzle, 815 Fuchsia Shock, 820 Pink Cognito, 825 Lovers Coral, 830 Rich Girl Red, 835 Berry Couture, 840 Honey Beige, 845 Terra Copper, 850 Plum Velour
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • The Super Lustruous Shine Lipsticks are the newest additions to the Revlon lipstick range, and come in a lightweight sheer formula with a silky finish that leaves lips with a moisturised sheen.
  • Available in 11 shades in Australia, all of which are featured in this post.
  • Most shades are quite natural looking with a MLBB shade for most skin tones.  For a more vibrant pop of colour, there’s Fuchsia Shock, Berry Couture, Plum Velour and Rich Girl Red that leans toward coral more than red.
  • Verdict: This lipstick range will appeal to those who love a natural lip with a sheer but noticeable wash of colour.  The moisturising silky texture revives lips leaving it with a healthy sheen, and I especially love how easy it is to apply without needing to be overly precise.

CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss – Controversy 722 – Review, Photos, Swatches

Brand: Chanel
Range: Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss
Shade: Controversy 722
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Inspired by the iconic lipstick Rouge Allure, the Extrait de Gloss combines a smooth, silky gel texture with bold colour for a luxurious dramatic effect.
  • Despite being very pigmented, the formula is neither sticky nor tacky, and leaves lips feeling comfortable and sensuous for hours.
  • I find that one pump is enough for the entire lips, and rubbing my lips together helps to spread the gloss evenly into the lip creases.
  • Tip: Use the long edge of the wand to spread the gloss along your lip line, then use the rounded corner of the wand to define your cupids bow.
  • Controversy is described as a “brown plum” and has a vampy edge to it.
  • What sets this apart from other pigmented glosses is that it’s not only long lasting, but even after drinking it leaves a soft stain behind, giving your lips a flush of colour from the undertones.  For me, the flush of colour that remained was a rhubarb MLBB shade.
  • Verdict: The brown tones in this vampy gloss will appeal to those who have warm skin tones, or want to create a chocolate toned autumn look.CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss - Controversy 72 Reviews Photos Swatch

CHANEL Rouge Allure Moiré – Farouche 122 – Review, Photos, Swatches

Brand: Chanel
Range: Rouge Allure Moiré
Shade: Farouche 122
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Rouge Allure Moiré is Chanel’s newest addition to their signature lipstick range, featuring a refined mother-of-pearl effect for a sophisticated luminous lustre on lips.
  • Available in 6 permanent shades – Farouche, Ambigue, Indécise, Suprenante, Etonnante, Énigmatique, and 2 limited edition shades – Impulsive and Audacieuse.
  • Farouche is a chocolate brown with a subtle pearl sheen that’s just enough to add luminosity without going as far as frosty.   It’s so pigmented that you get full coverage in just few sweeps.
  • Rouge Allure’s are one of my all time favourite lipstick formulas as they’re plush and comfortable, apply smoothly both with and without lip balm, don’t slip around and once the creaminess sets it becomes a soft satin finish.
  • Verdict: Farouche will appeal to those with dark skin tones that need rich warm tones in their MLBB shade.  If you’re someone that’s self-conscious about the fullness of your lips, the plush pearl sheen will give them a soft focus effect that’s less intrusive than a glossy finish or less aging than a matte finish.

Brand: theBalm
Range: theBalm Girls Lipstick
Shades: Mia Moore, Foxxy Pout, Amanda Kissmylips
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • theBalm Girls Lipsticks are rich in pigment and lip conditioners with a sleek bullet-style packaging.
  • Soft creamy texture that applies beautifully with great coverage that’s buildable according to your preference.
  • Has a refreshing sweet minty scent.
  • Free of chemicals and does not contain parabens, synethetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs, triclosan and preservatives.
  • Available in six shades with James Bond-inspired names:  Mia Moore (rich creamy red), Mai Billsbepaid (velvety nude), Ima Goodkisser (soft shimmering coral), Foxxy Pout (metallic bronze), Amanda Kissmylips (sheer maroon berry), Anita Boytoy (shimmering pink)
  • Verdict: Whether you’re after a classic red, or a sheer wash of brown or a hint of bronze on your lips, theBalm lipsticks are a great affordable range that applies as beautifully as many lipsticks at a higher price point.  The shade range is however a bit limited, but I recommend checking out Mia Moore – a classic neutral red that is so densely pigmented that it gives lips a “va va voom” effect.

THEBALM Girls Lipstick 1

Amanda Kissmylips was more of a sheer brown on me than a “sheer maroon berry”.
Applied over a layer of Mecca Cosmetica Lip De-Luscious SPF 25 – look what a difference a thick layer this amazing lip balm makes (first and third photo) vs. a thin layer (middle photo)

RRP: $19.95 AUD available in Australia through selected pharmacies and in David Jones & www.thebalm.com
