MAYBELLINE Color Whisper – Review, Photos, Swatches

Brand: Maybelline
Range: Color Whisper
Shades: Petal Rebel, Oh La Lilac, Pink Possibilities, Who Wore It Red-er, One Size Fits Pearl, Lust for Blush, Orange Attitude, Mad for Magenta
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Maybelline Color Whispers are a sheer lipstick with a translucent gel formula that doesn’t contain heavy waxes or oils.
  • They’re ultra lightweight and glide smoothly leaving a moist sheen.
  • Despite the moist gel formula, I didn’t find this moisturising enough for my dry lips and needed to prep lips with lip balm first for a smoother finish.  I also disagree with comparison that these are similar to Revlon Lip Butters as the latter is much more buttery with a smoother finish than Color Whisper.
  • On my flushed lip tone, the paler shades appeared streaky and accentuated my lip flaws.  Whereas the darker shades like Mad for Magenta and Who Wore It Red-er  gave my lips a punchy popsicle tint.  Orange Attitude is a wearable sheer orange, and Lust for Blush will appeal to those that love their MLBB’s.
  • Verdict: If I have to choose one shade to try from this range, it would be Mad for Magenta as it’s a really easy-to-wear magenta that looks good even when sheer & slightly “undone”.  The 8 shades featured in this post are the only shades available in Australia, but Berry Ready is another shade I recommend (available overseas) trying if magenta is not your thing.

RIMMEL Apocalips Lip Lacquer Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Brand: Rimmel 芮谜
Range: Apocalips Lip Lacquer
Shades: Star Gazer, Phenomenon, Nude Eclipse, Solstice, Celestial, Nova, Apocalips, Stellar
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Apocalips Lip Lacquer combines the intense colour of a lipstick with a smooth lacquer-like shine, with a luscious liquid packed with pure colour pigments.
  • Creamy, conditioning texture with full opaque coverage that sits comfortably and is long lasting.  Immediately transforms dry lips to a moist lacquer finish.
  • Available in 9 shades – Apocaliptic 303 is the shade worn by Kate Moss in the campaign.
  • The applicator features an in-built reservoir (similar to YSL Glossy Stain) helping the lip lacquer to glide on easily and coats lips evenly, so you won’t get any gloopy finish with accidental over-application.
  • Tendency to smear on teeth if you apply it too perfectly in inner sections of your lips.  I recommend applying a small amount & blotting with a tissue.
  • Verdict: Really impressed with this range for a number of reasons – firstly, the nude and gold shades completely concealed my lip tone without any streaks or patches.  With a flushed lip tone like mine this is a real treat!  Secondly, the texture is not only soft and comfortable but is also conditioning and adds volume to dry tired lips.  The only drawback is that the staying power didn’t last on me and the centre of the lips wears off while eating, leaving a ring of liquid lipstick.  For this reason (and the tendency to smudge on teeth), my favourite shades are the lowest maintenance ones – Celestial and Solstice.

Brand: theBalm
Range: Plump Your Pucker Tinted Gloss
Shades: Pink My Lemonade, Passion My Fruit
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Plump Your Pucker Tinted Gloss is formulated with Maxi-Lip which works cumulatively over time to create lasting fullness, especially if worn consecutively for 30 days.  Also contains folic acid, menthol and Vitamin C to boost circulation and reduce the look of fine lines.
  • Available in 11 shades – Pink My Lemonade is a natural pink with fine gold shimmers, Passion My Fruit is a rosewood with dense shimmers
  • Sculpts lips with a moderate volume boost and smoothes lip lines, and has a slight cooling tingle from the menthol.
  • theBalm products are free of parabens, sulphates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs, triclosan and preservatives.
  • Verdict: I especially liked Pink My Lemonade, the perfect natural “my lips but better” tint that gives perks up my lips.  Passion My Fruit on the other hand was a lovely rosewood shade but the shimmers were too large & unrefined for my liking.   If you’re looking for a serious volume boost this gloss may not be enough, however I’m happy with how it sculpts my lips.

MAYBELLINE NY Color Sensational High Shine Gloss

Brand: Maybelline
Range: NY Color Sensational High Shine Gloss
Shades: Almond Crush, Electric Shock, Plum Lustre, Iced Chocolate, Glisten Up Pink, Captivating Coral, Mirrored Mauve, One Shine Day, Gleaming Grenadine, Luminous Latte
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Give your lips a luminous look with finishes that range from molten glazes through to juicy sheens.
  • Wax free formula that glides incredibly smoothly, melting into lips coating them evenly without sinking into lines or sliding.
  • Despite being infused with Maybelline’s signature honey nectar ingredient, I find this collection features a strong scent of fruit chews (like Starbursts).
  • Available in 10 shades from petal pinks to eye popping coral.
  • Verdict: It’s not everyday that I’m impressed by a high street lip gloss range, but the smooth “lip hugging” formula has captivated me.  My favourite shades are Plum Luster (which I’m saving for Autumn), Electric Shock (cool pink that sits amazingly well even on my pigmented lips) and Iced Chocolate (creamy nude).

BODY SHOP Born Lippy Stick – Pomegranate – Reviews, Photos, Swatches

BODY SHOP, LIP TREATMENTS, Lips, NC20, Yishan | by — December 20, 2012

Brand: Body Shop
Range: Born Lippy Stick
Shade: Pomegranate
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Did you know Body Shop’s cult lip balm is also available in a stick format?  Born Lippy Stick is great for anyone that wants to add a tint of colour & shot of moisture on the go in a convenient & hygienic wind-up tube.
  • Key ingredients – Community Fair Trade marula oil & Community Fair Trade beeswax.
  • Also available in Lychee, Pink Berry, Strawberry & Plum
  • Pomegranate looks bright red in the tube, but the sheer red tint gives lips a natural healthy “my lips but better” flush of colour.
  • It does smells like sweetened pomegranate but is actually very subtle in taste.
  • Very moisturising, instantly softening lips however it doesn’t smooth lip lines.   The finish is a subtle low sheen.
  • The combination of oil & beeswax provides a bit of grip that works beautifully as a lipstick base.
  • Verdict: The marula oil lingers on the lips providing longer lasting moisture, and interestingly – despite containing beeswax – doesn’t leave you with a waxy film once the moisturising ingredients are fully absorbed.  I recommend this for loyal fans of Body Shop lip balms, especially younger girls as it’s a safe way of adding a flush of colour to your lips without breaking any rules about whether it’s an appropriate age to wear lip colour.  The lip motif & love hearts on the packaging gives instant street cred & is a great beauty staple for the school bag.

RRP: $10.95 AUD
