REVLON Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick – Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Lips, LIPSTICK, NC20, REVLON, Yishan | by — March 19, 2013

Tags: , , ,

Brand: Revlon
Range: Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick
Shades: Cruise Collection, Finale, Trendsetter, Muse, Preview, Womenswear
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • A long-wearing lipstick that applies buttery smooth, but sets into a velvety suede finish.
  • Thanks to the Shea Butter, Vitamin E and aloe, my lips stayed smooth throughout the day despite the matte finish, with no signs of losing much hydration by the end of the day.
  • I recommend applying these to either bare lips, or lips that have fully absorbed their lip balm, as any lip balm residue makes it hard for this formula to set & build coverage.
  • Despite the medium-sized round tip, I find it easy to apply without any lip liner, using the edge of the bullet to create a precise edge.
  • Of the 20 shades available, I received 6 shades – Cruise Collection (orange coral), Finale (fire engine red), Trendsetter (raspberry), Muse (peony pink), Preview (dusty pink), Womenswear (sheer pink)
  • Verdict: Some of you shared with me that this formula dries out lips & looks patchy.  Whilst it doesn’t hide lip imperfections, I didn’t find that it accentuated them either, provided that lips are moisturised well beforehand.  I found it to be rather comfortable for a velvet suede lipstick – if not more comfortable than Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick! A must-try for the matte lippy lover.
  • GIVEAWAY: Stay tuned for a giveaway of this lipstick range! More details coming shortly.

My favourite shades are Finale & Trendsetter.

The creases in my lips vary in each picture as they were losing steam towards the end of the swatching session.

MAC Lipstick – Fire Sign – Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Lips, LIPSTICK, MAC, NC20, Yishan | by — July 24, 2012

Brand: MAC
Range: Lipstick
Shade: Fire Sign (Heavenly Creatures Collection)
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Fire Sign is much more gorgeous on the lips than it looks on the tube – a sheer raspberry red in a lustre finish.  On Mac’s website it’s simply described as “red-pink”.
  • It blends so seamlessly that you don’t really need a lip brush for a tinted effect, but you can layer it on for more coverage.
  • As lustre finishes are not known for their moisturising properties, I recommend wearing this over a moisturising lip balm.
  • Verdict:  This shade will appeal to those that like an effortless raspberry lip that is a fusion of vibrancy and translucency.  Great for pigmented lips for a “my lips but WAY better” flush of colour.

Swatched over a generous layer of Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm.

RRP: $36 AUD

FACE OF AUSTRALIA Sheer Gloss Lip Crayons

Brand: Face of Australia
Range: Sheer Gloss Lip Crayon
Shades: Macaron, Cupcake & Sundae
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Face of Australia is the latest brand to come out with lip crayons,  making their mark with a set of 3 shades for an incredibly affordable price of $14.95 AUD
  • Comes in Macaron (raspberry), Cupcake (milky pink), and Sundae (brown).  All infused with a subtle vanilla scent.
  • Glides on smoothly, coating lips with an incredibly moisturising and lightweight flush of colour.
  • Convenient wind-up applicator – no sharpening needed.
  • Although Macaron is my favourite shade of them all, I’m also impressed with Cupcake for being able to coat my flushed lips with a milky pink tint without any streaks. The great thing about Sundae is that the sheerness of the brown blends with the pink in your lips for your own customised pink-brown shade.
  • Verdict: The thing about lip crayons is that either the shade doesn’t pull my heart strings, or the finish is not moistuirising enough. What I love about Face of Australia’s lip crayons is firstly how moisturising it is & smooths my lip lines like they never existed.  And I absolutely love Macaron, the gorgeous raspberry shade is worth purchasing the whole set for!

RRP: $14.95 AUD for a set of 3

Available at Priceline, Kmart, Big W and selected pharmacies Australia wide.

EDWARD BESS Ultra Slick Lipstick – Night Romance – Reviews, Photos, Swatches

EDWARD BESS, Lips, LIPSTICK, NC20, Yishan | by — May 30, 2012

Brand: Edward Bess
Range: Ultra Slick Lipstick
Shade: Night Romance
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Ultra Slick Lipsticks – the product that shot Edward Bess to fame – are super creamy, moisturising, smoothing and long wearing.
  • Available in 16 shades, Night Romance is described as a “rich raspberry mousse” – a great everyday colour for pigmented lips.
  • The scent is described as “wild fig”, a delicate sweet scent that is less fig-scented Estee Lauder lip products.
  • At initial application it’s very glossy, and once absorbed it becomes demi-matte with a hint of shine.
  • Feels luxuriously comfortable on the lips, with its intense hydration and soft creamy texture.
  • The smooth texture doesn’t crease on lip lines, but as with all creamy lipstick it does accentuate lip flakes so make sure you exfoliate beforehand.
  • Verdict: This is a pure creamy lipstick that delivers on all its promises – pigment, moisturising, smoothing and long wearing.  You only need a small amount to achieve medium-full coverage with amazing pigment, and the only time you’ll ever need to touch up is after meals.
  • Note: The revamped Edward Bess lipsticks now come in square shaped pacakaging.

Swatched over a thin layer of Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm.

The lighting makes the shade on my lips look muted, but on my pigmented lips the finish is closer to my arm swatch.

LANCOME Rouge in Love – 163M Dans ses Bras – Reviews, Photos, Swatches

LANCOME, Lips, LIPSTICK, NC20, Yishan | by — May 14, 2012

Brand: Lancome
Range: Rouge in Love
Shade: 163M Dans ses Bras
Swatched by yours truly: akisa

  • Rouge in Love, is a long-wearing lip colour that is featherlight, and melts on application, providing lips with long-lasting moisturising comfort and juicy shine.
  • Available in 21 shades, the collection is categorised into three groups Jolis Matins (fresh shades for daytime wear), Boudoir Time (pop shades for cocktail hour), and Tonight is My Night (deep shades for night wear) to make it easier to decide on a shade.
  • I highly recommend trying at the counters before buying online, as Rouge in Love looks very different on everybody.  When I attended the Rouge in Love launch in Melbourne, a few of us tried shade 159 and it looked completely different across 5 bloggers (ranging from hot red, coral red to pink coral).
  • 163M is a raspberry red that can turn blue-toned or warm-toned depending on your lip & skin tone.
  • Verdict: For the first time in a long time I am tempted to buy several shades within one collection.Next on my wish list is 159B (Rouge in Love), 350B (Rose Boudoir) and 353M (Rose Pitimini / Roses in Love).
  • Note: Some shade name seems to be different in US & Australia, but the shade numbers are the same.

Pigmented lipstick with juicy shine seem to be the current trend!
