Brand: MAC
Range: Lipstick
Shade: Ruby Woo & Russian Red
Swatched by the lovely: Katherine

      Katherine describes

Ruby Woo

as a slightly brighter and cool toned red than

Russian Red

which is a deeper rich neutral red.   Texture wise,

Ruby Woo

      is a retro-matte finish whilst

Russian Red

    is a normal matte finish.

  • The similaries and differences between MAC Ruby and Russian Red extend beyond first appearances.  Read the rest of Katherine’s blog post for her detailed comparison of Ruby Woo vs. Russian Red, including which of the two has an easier texture to apply!
  • Thanks Katherine for the lovely swatch!

Brand: Avon
Range: Ultra Glazewear Lip Gloss
Shades: Fiery Red, Mauve Movement, Pink Watermelon, Nude, Tangerine Gleam, Intense Plum, Nude Muse, Tickled Pink
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • Avon Ultra Glazewear Lip Glosses are a moisturising gloss that has a soft texture that doesn’t feel sticky or tacky.
  • Sculpts lips into a high shine lacquer finish won’t feather or bleed
  • Available in 9 shades – 8 of which are featured here, and the other shade is Clear (not pictured).
  • Very mild scent that reminds me of cupcakes.
  • Verdict: Some shades are sheerer than others, with the most pigmented ones being Intense Plum, Fiery Red and Tangerine Plum.  My favourites are Mauve Movement (a mauve MLBB shade) and Pink Watermelon (sheer pink with shimmers).  For just $14.99 these are very reasonably priced for their quality, and are versatile to be worn both on their own or layered over lipstick for a dimensional finish.

THE GLOSS BAR Lipstick – Vixen – Review, Photos, Swatches

  • The Gloss Bar are a Brisbane based makeup and hair styling studio with their own boutique range of lipsticks, glosses and glazes.
  • Their lipsticks are enriched with Vitmain E and available in 4 formulas – cream satin, hi-gloss, pearl and matte.
  • I was offered to try Vixen, a deep blue red in a cream formula, and was pleasantly surprised by the amazing pigment, high grip finish that leaves lips looking sculpted.
  • Whilst the scent and taste is similar to most budget brands, the rich pigments will appeal to makeup artists that need to create a high definition lip.
  • I like the matte black packaging, but I’m not a fan of the way the logo is printed on the cap as it lacks character for a lipstick that’s priced only a few dollars off lipsticks from well known brands such as Napoleon Perdis and Clinique.
  • Verdict: Being a boutique brand, I imagine this lipstick range will appeal to customers of The Gloss Bar makeup artists who wish to re-create their looks using the same products. Vixen is so pigmented that you don’t need any lip liner, just a lip brush to apply evenly for longer lasting results.   As it’s only light in moisture, I recommend prepping lips with a moisturising lip balm before hand.

THE BODY SHOP Color Crush Lipsticks – Review, Photos, Swatches

Brand: The Body Shop
Range:  Color Crush Lipsticks
Shades: 101 (Red Siren), 105 (Coral Cutie), 205 (Passionate Pink), 210 (Sweetheart Pink), 215 (Innocent Pink), 240 (Damson in Distress), 330 (Spice Things Up)
Swatched by yours truly: Yishan

  • The Body Shop Color Crush Lipsticks (which are replacing the Colourglide range) are 100% cruelty free and 100% vegetarian, formulated with nurturing cherry seed oil and Community Fair Trade marula oil.
  • Packed with pigment & moisture yet light in weight, they’re not only creamy and apply smoothly but the pigments also stain the lips. Also has a subtle rose scent
  • Available in 23 shades.  I swatched only 5 out of 7 shades as the last 2 pink shades on the right were too pale for my lip tone.
  • Verdict: Highly pigmented lipsticks often come with a “high grip” formula, but The Body Shop Color Crush Lipsticks are incredibly lightweight and a dream to apply, softening lips with moisture. I’m loving the colours and formula of this range more so than similar comparisons such as Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lip Color, as they’re vibrant without looking took punchy and make my lips look smooth and moisturised. Give it a go if you’re in the mood for colour!
